Fuel vent on 4400
Author Last Post
I recently purchased a 4600 and within an hour of stepping aboard as her new owner experienced the same problem you described while fueling her.

I was told that while heeling fuel may creep up the vent line and create a vacuum block. My remedy (don't laugh because it worked) was to put my mouth up to the vent and blow air back down the line.

Long term, I was advised to trace the line to be sure that all areas slant up so as not to create a pocket for the fuel to collect.

Hope this helps.

Very helpful. Thank you.
I recently purchased an 08 4400 and have not had to put fuel in the tank as it was full at purchase so I don't know if I have a problem like you describe but I did find the fuel vent/hose.  The vent is in the stanchion just forward of the fuel fill on the port side of the boat.  There is a small hole at the base of the stanchion where the air vents.  The hose can be found as it enters the stanchion base by removing the wood panel behind the settee.  There are 4 screws to remove and the panel comes out.  Hope this helps
Thanks for the reply. Will check out the gauge. It takes a few gallons then begins spitting out. We've tried filling very slowly and at different angles, but that wasn't any help. We fill a small amount, then wait and it burps it back up. Cue the absorbent towels. We took her out and motored a bit and then brought her back and tried to fill again, but it spit up again.

Where is your vent located?
I have an '08 4400 and I have the same issue, even when pumping gas slowly. My guess is that you don't have a clogged hose. My guess is that your have a broken gauge. That's not uncommon. One test would be to let it sit for a few minutes and see if you can get more diesel through it or once it starts spitting up Deisel. is it really full? By letting it sit for a bit, you'll know if it's just working it's way past a clog. Also, does it immediately start spitting up fuel or does it take a few - several minutes?
We are new owners of an '07 Tartan 4400. Looking for the fuel vent/hose. When we try to fill tank with diesel, it burps it back up.  The fuel gauge registers half full, but the tank won't take any more fuel. Wanting to check the fuel vent/hose to make sure it is clear.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
