Tartan 40 - davit, dinghy, solar panels
Author Last Post
I can tell from those photos that the manufacturer was Kato Marine in Annapolis.

Jim
Here are some photos of my davits. I don't know the manufacturer. We originally would hoist the dingy with the 9.8 HP outboard but I found it was too heavy and would swing around in a seaway. When I am next at the boat, I will take some more photos and find the manufacturer's name.

I will dig up some photos, but have since sold the boat and am now lake sailing a T 31. I had a yard do the installation because of the additional bracing I added for the stern pulpit since the davits have an attachment to the stern pulpit. Kato is located in Annapolis and fortunately my boat was there. It is a very well built product, but more expensive than the ones that aren't built to fit the boat. They have a very good lifting system and a rigid bar across the back to keep the boat from swinging. You might check their website. A photo of the boat with davits in place is attached.
I agree Garhauer makes very good products at a good price.

Here is a photo with the dinghy on the stern. I found it on Kato's website where they list and have photos of all the types of boats for which they have built davits.

JIm,
do you have any photos of your davit system?  When did you get it and how much did it cost and how long did it take you to install?

Here are a couple posts from our blog for exactly these projects on a T4000

Hi Jacques,
what did you end up doing for your davit system?  I'm thinking of adding davits to my T40
Danny
I added davits to my Tartan 40 from Kato Marine in Annapolis. I also added additional support for the davits attached to the stern and the aft pulpit. They would still have all the measurements.

Thank you for your suggestion, David. It looks like that company is based out of California, no? I am in Staten Island, NY, so perhaps that might be too far to go for custom davits. Anyway, I will try contacting them to see what they offer.

Thanks again for your help.
Jacques
I would start off with speaking to  the people at Garhauer Marine (http://garhauermarine.com/catalog_process.cfm?cid=81). Don't be put off by their website... they make stainless boat hardware not flashy web pages. Very good pricing, will do custom work, stand behind their products, and a family owned business with integrity. I have yet to hear any complaints about their hardware; if there were a problem they would repair, replace or refund it immediately. A common reaction to their hardware is "THAT is REALLY nice." Mark is the contact there. I have no affiliation with them, but thought a solid "plug" for their product line was called for.

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a Tartan 40 and I'm interested in adding a davit for a dinghy and solar panel(s). Have any of you already gone through this process? I would like your input as to the best method of execution and any advice you might have.

I keep the boat in Staten Island, so if you know of any specific people/companies to have this done, that would also be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Jacques
