For my next trick, I'll be replacing my rudder bearings.
I vacillated between the "epoxy injection method" and purchasing new bearings. I'm sure I could make the epoxy method work, but in the end, machining new bearings won out. Maritime Plastics in Annapolis, MD will turn them out for me, lickity-split.
Once I drop the rudder, I'll caliper everything to get the specs and they'll CNC them out of Delrin.
I know Delrin isn't the hardest wearing material but if the rudder/steering is locked down when not sailing, it should greatly extend the life of the bearings.
I've seen the "Womble" blog where they used the epoxy injection method. I'll try to photo-document my experience for those wanting to go with traditional bearings.
